Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Shakes Up the Gaming Industry with Game Pass Launch

Exuce.com – This is good news for game lovers all over the world, especially for those of you who like to play classy games like Call Of Duty. Microsoft as the manufacturer of this war game has announced that their flagship game Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released soon.

Microsoft said that they have made changes and upgrades as well as additional features and new levels of difficulty in their latest version of the Call Of Duty game called BLACK OPS 6.
There is something new about purchasing Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6. If gamers usually have to buy games at high prices, then in Black Ops 6, Microsoft provides a new way to play their games, not by buying at high prices. expensive at first, but can be done by subscribing. So gamers don’t have to spend money at the start to be able to play this game. Gamers just need to subscribe, and not too much money is spent at the start. So you can have a much more affordable monthly subscription option via Game Pass.

Industry experts like Christopher Dring, head of GamesIndustry.biz, see this as a “significant step” for Microsoft and the gaming landscape. While Game Pass has offered day-one access to other titles, such as Starfield in 2023, none have been as widely anticipated as Call of Duty.

With over 425 million copies sold, Call of Duty is the fourth best-selling game series in history, generating billions in revenue. It is considered the crown jewel of Activision Blizzard, which Microsoft acquired for $69 billion in 2023.

Instead of sticking to the traditional sales model, Microsoft is taking risks with this new approach. “Call of Duty was by far the biggest game to hit the subscription service on launch day,” Dring highlighted. “This is a big test for subscriptions, because if Call of Duty can’t convert subscribers, maybe no one will.”

Similar to Sony’s PlayStation Plus, Game Pass allows players access to hundreds of games for a monthly fee, often described as “Netflix for games”. However, unlike streaming services, Game Pass allows downloading many titles to play offline.

With over 34 million Game Pass subscribers as of February 2024, and 47 million PlayStation Plus subscribers as of March 2023, the service is extremely popular. This means that, unless something changes before launch, for which there is currently no firm date, existing Game Pass subscribers won’t have to pay extra to play the new Call of Duty.

Microsoft’s bold move is a calculated risk, potentially cannibalizing sales in hopes of a significant increase in Game Pass subscriptions. Dring argues that this decision may be related to the inherent challenges of game streaming services – people don’t play as many games as they watch, making it difficult to justify paying for individual titles.

However, the addition of major games to the service may lead to adjustments to make this model more sustainable. “It will be interesting to see if Xbox will introduce higher tier Game Pass or other monetization techniques to mitigate this,” Dring added.

One remaining question is whether players can stream the new Call of Duty or download it. The answer may lie in the concessions Microsoft made during its acquisition of Activision Blizzard to appease regulators.

To gain approval in the UK, Microsoft agreed to give Ubisoft cloud streaming rights to Activision games on consoles and PC. This means Ubisoft ultimately decides on streaming availability, potentially delaying or even preventing it from launching. Additionally, a new Call of Duty may appear on rival streaming platforms later.

While details of the deal remain unclear, it’s unlikely that PlayStation gamers will be able to stream the game on day one.
